Diamond Carat is the unit of weight equal to 200 milligrams. Values per carat rapidly increases with carat size as larger diamonds are more rare.
Diamond Cut is the rated craftsmanship of proportions, symmetry and polished finish. Ideal is Well-cut and sparkles with radiance. Shallow-cut and deep-cut diamonds let the light escape at the sides or bottom.
Diamond Colour is graded alphabetically from D (totally colorless) to Z (yellow)
Diamond Clarity is the gauge of how clear and flawless a gem is. Very few stones are perfectly flawless – most contain at least minor mineral inclusions or tiny cracks. The more visible those flaws are, the less valuable the stone is considered.
VVS1/VVS2
Minute inclusions only seen under 10x magnification
VS1/VS2
Very Slightly inclusions (two grades). Minute
inclusions very hard to detect with the naked eye.
SI1-SI2
Slightly inclusions (three grades). Small inclusions
only sometimes visible to the naked eye. Fantastic diamonds.
I1-I2
Inclusions visible to the naked eye yet lots of life
and sparkle. Great value and still stunning.
I3
More heavily inclusions with fractures and easily visible with the eye often milky stone with little sparkle.
Diamond Fluorescence authenticates earth natural stones and often adds value to lower colour stones as it gives the stones a brighter appearance. Better quality stone colours with strong fluorescence lowers value. The diamonds UV Blue wave length is measured in nanometers ranging from glowing 420 to a faint 450nm.
